China Unveils ‘Poxiao’: World’s Fastest Flash Memory Revolutionizing AI and Data Storage

In a significant leap for data storage technology, Chinese researchers from Fudan University have unveiled ‘Poxiao’—the world’s fastest flash memory device. This innovation promises to redefine the landscape of AI computing and data storage by achieving unprecedented speeds.

Unprecedented Speed: 400 Picoseconds

‘Poxiao’ operates at a staggering speed, capable of erasing and rewriting data in just 400 picoseconds (one-trillionth of a second). This performance is approximately 100,000 times faster than conventional flash memory, positioning it as a game-changer in the field of data storage .​

Bridging the Gap Between Memory and Processing

  • The development addresses a critical bottleneck in AI computing—data transfer speeds. Traditional flash memory relies on floating-gate transistors, which necessitate a “warm-up” phase before efficient electron movement. ‘Poxiao’ eliminates this delay through a novel “2D-enhanced hot-carrier injection” method, allowing electrons to transition instantly from low-speed to high-speed states .

The breakthrough lies in the innovative use of a two-dimensional Dirac graphene-channel, facilitating ballistic charge transport. By modulating the Gaussian length of the two-dimensional channel, researchers achieved “super-injection” of channel charge into the memory’s storage layer, effectively bypassing traditional speed limitations
